Dental Fillings?
Dental fillings are materials used to replace the decayed surface of the tooth enamel or dentin. It is usually comprised of glass ionomer, composite resin, and silver amalgam.

When Do You Need A Dental Filling?
Dental filling is indicated in the tooth that has a decayed portion constricted to only enamel/dentin. It cannot be done if the decayed portion has already involved the pulp structure of the affected tooth.
- Mostly in the condition where you see a black line / spot on your tooth surface
- Chipped or broken tooth involving only the enamel or dentin
Advantages Of Dental Filling
- It stops the caries to grow in the tooth
- It restores the structure of the tooth
- Filling has low out of the pocket cost
- Convenient and need only few minutes to perform
Post-Operative Instructions
- Usually for few fillings the dentist will ask you not to have any food and water for 1 hour post treatment
- For advanced filling materials like light cure composite there is no such limitation

Procedure
- Usually the dentist uses a handpiece to remove the black decayed part of the tooth.
- Then a retentive shape is given at the missing part of the tooth.
- For Glass Ionomer Cement, the liquid and a dust filling material is mixed and a paste is created to put inside the cavity.
- Usually takes 4 to 5 mins for initial setting.
- For light cure composite filling the tooth surface is etched to increase the micro surface area.
- A bonding agent is used and cured by the blue light.
- Filling material is used and a blue light is used to solidify the filling material.
Cost Of Dental Filling
Usually it varies from 400 to 1200 INR per cavity.
